key_portrait2.jpg

We asked Ed some quick-fire questions:

Born: Nottinghamshire

Age: 51

Education: Degree in politics, philosophy & economics from Oxford. MSc in economics from Birkbeck, London

Married: 12 years, to Emily.

“We met through the Liberal Democrats! We were both in a policy group on housing. I asked her out for dinner, we got on really well and it all happened.”

Children: Two. John is 9, Ellie is 3

Drive: Ford B-Max. "My son's disabled, so we went for a car with sliding doors."

TV: Political dramas like The West Wing and Borgen.

Film: Monty Python’s Life of Brian. “Then, there are French films, like Chocolat and Betty Blue.”

Stand-up: "We're off to see Stewart Lee in Kingston next week."

Author: Ian McEwan

Album: "I could be really boring and say Coldplay. I'd break it down into three categories:

Current - Adele
All-time - Genesis, old not new
Classical - Officium by Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble. It's basically Gregorian chant with jazz saxophone."

Meal: "I cook a good roast beef or lamb with Yorkshire pudding"

Biggest challenge: "I lost both of my parents when I was young. My father died when I was four, leaving my mum aged 36 at the time, with three boys under the age of ten. Then, my mum got ill and my brothers and I nursed her for 3 years before she died when I was 15."

Sum up your life: "I haven't had a standard life and I think that my real-life experiences help me relate better to people needing their MP’s help."
